Kitsune, or red fox

The northern hemisphere predator with the most extensive range: The ubiquitous red fox. As in Europe, the red fox (locally known under the lovely name of kitsune) is relatively difficult to find but, once found, it is not very easily afraid of human presence.

Arctic foxes aren’t white

Who would not admire the stunningly white fur of those arctic foxes you see in the BBC documentary films? But this species is not systematically white.

However, all of these foxes are remarkably agile and active.

One of the nicest and cutest little mammals is observable in the Svalbard archipelago. This one was so unafraid that it came in the middle of our group in order to pee, clearly meaning “this is MY place; You’re just invited here”.
