This is a list of incompatibilities collected for Azureus, but it also applies to uTorrent and probably most of the other P2P applications (including my own prefered BitComet).<\/p>\n<h4>Reason not yet verified<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Apple Airport Extreme (802.11g wireless with 128-bit WEP)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Due to too many connections<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>SpeedStream 5660 in Router\/NAPT configuration. There is no firmware newer than 2.(3).7. Switch to bridged mode and firewall your network to fix it. Otherwise, when it dies just power-cycle the router and continue on.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The following modems\/routers have known problems with too many global connections, limiting them to 200 or less should fix the problems:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>D-Link 302G<\/li>\n<li>D-Link DI-624<\/li>\n<li>D-Link DSL-G664T<\/li>\n<li>Linksys BEFSR41V4\/BESR41<\/li>\n<li>Linksys Wireless-B<\/li>\n<li>Netgear DG632<\/li>\n<li>Netgear DG834G<\/li>\n<li>Netgear MR814<\/li>\n<li>Netgear WGT524<\/li>\n<li>Netgear Rangemax 802.11n WPN824<\/li>\n<li>W-Linx MB401-S (and SMC Barricade 7004 BR, which is identical in construction)<\/li>\n<li>Westell 6100<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Due to UPnP<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Most D-Link 5xx and 6xx (can also be caused by too many connections)<\/li>\n<li>D-Link DI-604<\/li>\n<li>Dynalink RTA1025W<\/li>\n<li>TP-LINK TL-R410<\/li>\n<li>ZyXEL Prestige 660H(W) (Firmware versions PE8+ will fix this)<\/li>\n<li>Some SpeedStreams<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Due to Port Forwarding<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>D-Link DI-514 (not port forwarding UDP protocol consistently)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Common fixes for routers\/modems freezing\/crashing\/etc<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Updating the router firmware<\/li>\n<li>Turning off the UPnP (in the client <strong>and<\/strong> in the router) and doing manual port forwarding<\/li>\n<li>Restricting the number of global connections to 200 or less (may need to go below 100, depending on the router)<\/li>\n<li>Turning off DHT<\/li>\n<li>Lowering net.max_halfopen and bt.connect_speed<\/li>\n<li>Putting the modem\/router into bridge or gateway mode (doesn&#8217;t apply to modems that aren&#8217;t routers)<\/li>\n<li>Getting a new router\/modem<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Sources: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.utorrent.com\/faq.php#Modems_routers_that_are_known_to_have_problems_with_P2P\">\u00c2\u00b5Torrent FAQ<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/azureus.aelitis.com\/wiki\/index.php\/Bad_routers\">Bad routers &#8211; AzureusWiki<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I recently found a intersting list of modems\/routers that do not survive well with P2P applications (let&#8217;s remember here that these applications can be very stressful for a network and its devices: hundreds or thousands of connections with a total traffic usually reaching the maximum limit of the network link).
