Always searching for extreme images, TNO created a superb photo of the city of Delft containing a tremendous level of details (much more than from a usual snapshot). This is understandable since there are 2.5 bilions pixels in the photo.
Enfin, voici un article de la BBC (donc en anglais) sur comment cette photo a été faite.

People are always aiming for records. While the digital photo industry is all about bigger sensors (despite the fact that it would be better for the actual user to have more sensitivity now that we reached about 5 mega-pixel level), some think ahead and want to create really big images.
In 2003, Max Lyons has stitched 196 images taken of Bryce Canyon in Bryce Canyon National Park in Utah, to create a magestic 1.09 giga-pixel picture.
All tools he used are pretty standard, but it takes some real will power to get to that level.

Today, inkjet printers are everywhere outputing photo images. Yesterday, silver-based prints were known for their good permanence (lasting up to a century). But is it the same for the latest inkjet prints? Henry wilhelm (of Wilhelm Imaging Research) is really the expert in evaluating this. The web site contains links to consumer-level articles (e.g. PDF copies of PCWorld articles), technical white papers for the high-end consumer, and news for the expert.

For those willing to find again my older photographs previously published on this web site, they can follow the link to my photos. The page is no longer updated regularly (I now prefer to use the thread about digital photography - it is easier to manage), but the images are still available there, of course.

This new category “record-breaking images” is there to collect all information about these images that some people made for the sake of having the largest possible digital image. Usually a collage, but not always, they have to have more than a billion pixels (giga-pixel images).
