Even if I am still a continuous partisan of writing PDF files directly from OpenOffice (my prefered free replacement for Microsoft Office), I found a web page with information about how to produce directly PDF files from applications which do not know how to make them (contrary to the native feature of OpenOffice).
Loose wire.
