The very good anti-virus software got a little better with version 8. But the free version (which made it so popular) is not yet available. For now, you’ll have to stick to the excellent v7.5.

This post was written in 2008. I have to admit that, today, I keep recommending Microsoft Security Essentials to all Windows users. It works, it works well and appears to be one of the best products on the market.
Currently, on my own PCs, I have 2x MSE (on the most recent computers), 1x AVG. I don’t care to change what is still working, but I’m now using more MSE than AVG. I can recommend both today (in Sept-2011).
